The Evolution of Popular Apps & Websites

Everything evolves, especially anything to do with technology.  As code and mark-up has advanced over the last decade, and as internet speeds have grown – websites and apps have changed and improved alongside these developments.  Gone are the HTML-only websites, all blue and white, and in have come the new more polished versions.  The look and feel has remained reasonably similar with websites such as Facebook and Youtube remaining loyal the original websites colours and structure.

Some interesting trivia about popular websites – Facebook was originally called “The Facebook” and was launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his roommates at Harvard College.  Initially access was restricted to students at Harvard, now Facebook is reported to have over 1.5 billion users.

Youtube.com was founded in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim.  All 3 were early employees of Paypal, and the company’s first office was based above a restaurant in San Mateo, California. The first ever video uploaded to Youtube.com was entitled “Me at the zoo”, and featured one of the website’s founders Jawed Karim – it can still be viewed online today.
