What would you do without your hardworking staff? Do you dread to think? Would you be able to function the business as well as you are now? If your answer is no, then do you clearly show that you highly appreciate them? If your answer is again no, then you’d better start doing it straightaway.
Yes, you’re one of many businesses. You say you’re unique at what you do but in reality, there’s a lot of companies who buy and sell similarly to you. A fair assessment? So, that makes it even more vitally important that you make your staff feel super special. What can you do for your business to stand out above all others and persuade staff to join or stay with you?
Job satisfaction is such a pull for members of staff. This includes being paid on time and fairly, a few days paid holiday each year and a good, friendly working environment. You also must remember to listen to their worries and any problems they may have either at work or at home. Be attentive and don’t turn a blind eye to this. They may feel underappreciated and there’s plenty more businesses out there who would love such a dedicated and indispensable person on their team? Think about granting them leave if they ask for it. Think of their welfare and be that considerate boss they thought you were when they signed the contract. Give them space to sort their head and their personal problems out.
When it comes to their monthly pay check, be prompt. No one likes waiting on money do they? Think of the rent you have to pay, the shopping bills, the mortgage. The list is endless. Wait too long on payment and your staff may feel cheated. This wasn’t what was written in their provisional contract. They may remind you that they turned down that other better paid job to stay with your company. Maybe they will reassess that decision and change their mind? Don’t let it come to that stage. Be professional. Treat your staff in the same way that they work so incredibly valiantly for you. With regards to employee benefits, you could think about incorporating benefit management or sort it yourself and apply that more considerate and personal touch.
Make sure the staff get time to let their hair down. Business is stressful. You know it and they know it. Sometimes, a few drinks or even a company meal after work hours is needed. They deserve it for all their hard work and will highly appreciate you doing this for them. Organise a Christmas party or a retirement or leaving dinner for a worker. All on you and the business, of course. Make sure you put some money away for this. Your staff will remember your generosity. As long as it doesn’t affect their performance come Monday, an occasion like this is always a great idea. Not only will team morale improve, but the boss will be fondly talked about throughout the office. Winner winner..
