Companies are established on a daily basis, each with their different programs and policies which guide their day to day operations. While some companies might provide proper working conditions for staff, the truth is there are several companies out there which give little or no consideration to staff working conditions but expect maximum output. If you are a job seeker and you have possibly put up some applications in some companies around, it is necessary you do some background checks on each company so as to know what you are getting into. To find out if a company is really great and your time will be worthwhile, you have to look out for the following signs:
- GREAT LEADERSHIP STYLE
There is a great difference between leadership and dictatorship. When you work in a company where your manager leads by example, you are sure in the right place. A good company is one where the manager is ready at any point in time to assist the employee when necessary. The traditional belief that the manager should sit at the top and issue out orders like a warlord is ethically wrong in the real business world.
- HIGH LEVEL OF COORDINATION
From the receptionist at the counter, to the manager at his office; the manner at which customers are attended to, the efficiency of work delivery and the entire management system as a whole will tell you the kind of company you are working for. A good company is one that is aware of these values and holds them in high esteem.
- COMMUNICATION CHANNEL
A good company establishes a well-defined means of communication between all staff as they know that it increases transparency and trust and thus the desire to work. Any company where staff have a low level of relationship and interaction is not one to tag “good”.
- REGULAR PAYMENT
This is one factor you should not joke with; in fact, it is the most important sign you should watch out for. The primary essence of getting employed is to make an income. When a company is fond of delaying or making incomplete payments to staff, it is not a good company. Every company knows that the primary reason for working is to get paid; only a good company will always try to ensure a smooth payroll processing and make sure employees get paid and on time.
- PROFITABILITY AND GROWTH
Growth is the mainstay of a company; by this I mean that a company will continue to exist if there is high level of growth in terms of market authority, customer base and the level of profit. While it may not be possible for an intending employee to determine the rate of growth of a company, it is possible to make good findings from existing employees and company-related information online or offline (business newspapers and magazines). It is quite normal in business that sometimes there is a downturn; however, a company where the losses are seriously competing with the profits is not a good one and should seriously be avoided.
- STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Several companies which give good consideration to staff development through the periodic organization of classes, training programs and off-site experiences exist in the business world. These are companies who see the need to facilitate a steady path of personal growth within their employees and can be classified as great places to work.
Now that you know, I will advise you take your time and do some serious research on every company you have dropped applications or intending to. Wish you the best of luck!
