Three Ways for Businesses to be Technologically Safe

Safety should be a top priority for any business. For the sake of your employees, customers and premises, taking every precaution to ensure all tech in and near to the workplace is a must. To do that, there are a few simple ways in which you can guarantee the safety of all technological parts of your business.

From the company website right down to the cleaning equipment, here are three ways in which you can make your business technologically safe:

Implement Cyber Security

Your online safety is hugely important and must be guaranteed. Failing to keep your website, computers and all the files stored on your file server secure could open a gateway to hackers. Should any of that be infected with malware such as ransomware, it could cost a lot to get fixed – losses worldwide from the WannaCry attack could cost as much as $4 billion.

To ward that threat off, you need to install anti-malware software or apps on every device and perform regular scans – every day, ideally. When security updates are needed for your phones, laptops and servers, make sure you do them straight away. Finally, use secure passwords with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols to minimise the risk of being hacked.

Use Secure Components

From the digital to the physical, many of your office appliances will have been made to strict safety standards. They will come with warning stickers, letting you know that you need to handle them with care. Going inside some of these appliances, the power supply in particular needs extra care.

To make sure voltage is carried safely from the main power supply to the appliance, using AC DC power supplies is important. The appliances in the staff kitchen, the computers in the office and even heavy machinery can be made to run safely, without fear of overheating and then catching fire.

Consider Energy Efficiency

Energy efficient technology is often safer than tech that doesn’t tick the eco-friendly box. The reason why is that efficient tech tends to use less voltage, which is less prone to overheating. Entire office buildings and warehouses that are eco-friendly are also worth looking at to keep your business’s tech safe.

To see whether an appliance or gadget is energy efficient, look for an Energy Performance Certificate. If it has an A or B rating, then it’s likely to use less energy. Anything from E to G, the lowest rating, is worth avoiding. Turning appliances off when they’re not in use is a must, regardless of energy rating.
