What does Drifty do?

Drifty, is the creator of Ionic, the cross platform mobile development platform for building performing mobile apps with open technologies. The company enables the web developers to build and publish native mobile apps, which can be published to the major app stores such as iTunes store, Amazon’s Appstore and Google Play.

The startup is the creator of the popular and growing cross platform mobile development framework Ionic, which is one of the top fifty most open source projects of the world. It makes it easy for the developers to build rich and interactive mobile applications which run across many mobile platforms.

It was raised $2.6 M in Venture round on March 30th 2015, by Arthur Ventures, Lightbank and Founder Collective.

What is next for Drifty?

The new funding for Drifty comes after the company has seen uptake of developers turning to its company, ranging from individuals to Fortune 50 enterprises. The startup is still pre-revenue. It plans to create a different open source model where the core of Ionic offerings are free, which includes the ability to let the developers build and test mobile apps.

Drifty is now expanding its features to include many “freemium” services, which is how Drifty will make money through. The company is currently testing a push notification service, and has visual design tool in beta stage that allows the developers to build apps using drag and drop.

Drifty was originally founded in 2012 by Ben Sperry and Max Lynch.  These founders have developed Drifty after realizing that there is a big opportunity in cross platform mobile development that lets the web developers leverage their own expertise for building the world of native mobile apps, with technologies they are familiar with CSS, HTML and Angular JS.
