In term paper writing, a student is expected to organize their content in five broad sections namely the title of the paper, an introduction, the body, the conclusion and finally the reference section.   1. Title

This forms the first section of a term paper. In a title, a student indicates the issue that the term paper focuses on. When crafting the title, it is important to ensure that it falls within the topic assigned by the instructor and that it narrows down to a specific issue.

This section informs the reader the overall focus of the term paper then narrows down to specific issues discussed in line with the topic. It should explain the purpose of the paper and justify the research. In this section, a student should introduce the issue being discussed to the reader in a manner that is interesting to read. Consider providing some background information in this section and explain briefly why you opted to focus on the issue you identified. Also, introduce your argument and the solution you are proposing. Bear in mind that you have very limited time to catch the attention of the reader. So, use some solid lines at the beginning of the paper. Also, provide a summary of what your term paper is about and what you hope to accomplish with it in this section.

  1. The body

This is the main section of the term paper and it is where a student needs to focus more energy. Here, you are expected to explain your research in details and depending on the topic, discuss your arguments in detail. Ensure that you include research from reliable sources that are also relevant to the topic or thesis provided to you by the instructor. In some situations, you may include figures, charts and other relevant materials to beef this section up. Based on the information you have, you may organize the body of your term paper in different sections. If you do so, ensure that the content has a logical flow to avoid confusion. Analyze your data from different angles so that you develop a good conclusion for your term paper.

  1. Conclusion

In this section, a student is expected to solve a riddle, put forward an argument or back up a thesis. Ideally, the conclusion needs to be on point and interesting. There are instructors who advise students to state their thesis again in the conclusion so it is important to pay attention and take notes when a term paper assignment is being issued. In some instances, it is better to conclude a term paper with a suggestion or a question to generate interest for debate, discussion or further research in a given topic. Most importantly, your conclusion should sum up your main points in a thorough way.

  1. References

This section provides details of your research sources and the term paper is not deemed complete without it. Often it is prepared in a list form organized in alphabetical order. It is worth noting that the sources listed here need to be academic and should be the ones used in the term paper. The format of references may vary based on institution or the requirements laid out by the instructor when issuing the assignment. Some of the commonly used referencing formats include Harvard, MLA and APA. It is important to pay attention to the structure of referencing for the format that you are required to use to ensure that you get it right.
