LED flashlights are the name of the game. If you’re in the market for a new flashlight, whatever form it comes in, then you’re going to be best off going for an LED light.
Here’s why. LED flashlights are going to last you longer in terms of battery life. Traditional flashlights need to be replaced much more often. LEDs are going to be much more powerful and helpful than those traditional yellow lights. All around, you will be much better off with an LED than one of those huge flashlights your parents have.
However, there are some important things to think about while deciding which LED flashlight to choose from. Even the brightest LED flashlight has things about it that may make you think twice. Below are five of the top things you need to think about the next time you’re in the market for an LED light.
- How Will You Carry Your Flashlight?
Flashlights come in all shapes and sizes. They also come in many ways to carry them. Do you want a light that will fit on your keychain to have wherever you go? Or do you want one that’s the size of a pen that can fit into your purse or pocket? Or maybe you just want one of the run-of-the-mill types of flashlights that you can keep below the sink.
Whatever type of flashlight you like, this is important to think about. How are you going to use the light and in what kinds of situations is it important to have?
- How Do You Turn It on And Off?
This is a complete matter of preference, but will have a big impact on how you use your LED flashlight. You can choose from three major ways of turning your light on and off: on the bottom, twisting the top, or pressing a button on the side.
This isn’t going to make a huge difference in your life, but will definitely make it more convenient if you choose the flashlight that fits best with your personal preferences.
- What Modes Does It Have?
Many LED flashlights are so advanced that they even have different light levels you can switch to or different kinds of “blinks”. With the light levels, flashlights can normally oscillate between low, medium and high. They can also perform different “blinks”. For example, some LED lights will blink SOS in Morse code if you’re ever in a situation that requires that (hopefully not!).
Modes are something you should keep in mind when purchasing your perfect LED flashlight because virtually all brands will have them.
- What Kinds of Batteries Should You Use?
AA and AAA batteries just aren’t going to cut it anymore, people. If you’re buying an LED flashlight, sure these batteries will still work. But it’s going to much more worth your money to opt for lithium batteries that will give much more power and a longer battery life.
In addition, lithium batteries will last on your shelf for up to 10 years, making them the perfect way to stock up that apocalypse bunker under your backyard.
- Do You Prefer Flood or Throw?
LED flashlights will give you the choice between flood lights, throw lights or a compromise between both. Flood lights will give you wide, sweeping light that lights up everything around you. Throw lights are more narrow and will give you a precise beam of light. And the compromise is…well a compromise between the two.
This is totally up to how you’re going to be using your flashlight. However, flood lights will generally give you much more light than a throw or compromise light.
Buying an LED flashlight is a great choice if you’re in the market for a new flashlight. Don’t just go for the traditional flashlights because you don’t think you have a choice. LED flashlights are much higher quality, will give you much more power, and will give you a much longer battery life than traditional yellow flashlights.
