What does Joule Unlimited do?

Joule Unlimited, produces infrastructure which is compatible with alternative energy technologies which utilizes carbon dioxide and sunlight. it captures sunlight for producing energy in liquid from such as ethanol and diesel, as well as use carbon dioxide as a feed stock for producing liquid fuels. It was formerly known as Joule Biotechnologies until 2010.

It has raised $ 40M in Private Equity funding on May 11^th, 2015 from Flagship Ventures.

What is next for Joule Unlimited?

With the latest funding Joule Unlimited has raised $200M to date. The latest funding is a combination of debt financing and private equity. The funding will be used towards a staged industrialization of its patented reverse combustion process, including expansion of its production field in Hobbs, New Mexico. The funding will supports its growth towards commercialization.

Joule Unlimited was founded on January 1^st, 2007 by Noubar Afeyan, George Church and David Berry. It has its headquarters in Bedford, MA. It is a pioneer in producing liquid fuels from recycled carbon dioxide. This provides a solution which is economical and practical for global mobility and it can be implement in a short period. It excels in carbon dioxide to fuel production through reverse combustion use solar power. It is free of feedstock constraints and complex processes, this platform can produce it without using  agricultural land, crops and fresh water.

The product specific catalysts constantly covert the waste carbon dioxide into renewable fuel directly which include hydrocarbons and ethanol for diesel, gasoline and jet fuel. This process uses a modular closed system which readily scales through simple replication.
