Schoology was founded on May 1, 2009 by Jeremy Friedman, Tim Trinidad, Bill Kindler and Ryan Hwang. . The company has designed a versatile solution for meeting the learning and administrative needs of K-12, higher ed, and corporate settings.  The company allows individual subscriptions and school or district wide enterprise packages. The individual subscriptions enable schools to try the system in a small number of classrooms before deciding to implement it on a larger scale. Professors and teachers can sign up on their own for starting the system independently.
