The amount of time we have each day is finite, and traveling can drastically decrease the amount of time each week we have to accomplish our work. If you have to travel for your business, you need tricks and tips to getting your work done while on the go. It is best to get the most out of your business traveling.
Let’s take a look at some great tricks!
- Stack Meetings
If your trip is intended to last only one day, leaving on a flight early that morning is ideal. Then, you can stack all of your meetings into that one day. Afterwards, have a bite to eat and return on a flight home that evening. You will be exhausted the next day, but it means you have the next day to relax.
- Have a Detailed Plan for Travelling
You should have all of your documentations ready to go for your travelling. First, you need to let everyone know what you expect to accomplish on your trip. All businesses should take advantage of travelling programs because you can earn points from using hotels and airlines. Soon, your flights will result in a free flight!
- Pack Efficiently
When you are traveling, it is important to pack efficiently. The last thing you want to do is pack too much and have to carry a super heavy suitcase through the airport. Luggage on tour helps take the load off of your body while you are traveling. Also, pack the items you need for business on your carryon bag, such as your laptop and chargers. Remember a charge of clothes! If your luggage is lost, losing your business items would be a nightmare.
- Set Work Times
If you are traveling for leisure but want to continue to work as well, you need to set specific work times. Having a schedule allows you to work efficiently and still enjoy your traveling experience. One of the best times to work is in the morning; have breakfast and sit down with your coffee to knock out a bit of work before hitting the sights of the area.
- Pick a Go-To Person
One issue many business owners report during traveling is being contacted by numerous people with problems and questions. It can be frustrating when several people contact you with comments. Instead, designate one person who can contact you when issues or questions arise. If someone prefers to ask you a question, they can email but not text or call you. Pick one time when you will talk to your go-to person each day and go over anything that needs discussion.
You are traveling! You don’t need nor want to dedicate every single day to work. While you are gone, make sure to take at least one day when you don’t accomplish any work tasks at all. Shut off your work phone and don’t respond to any emails. Relaxing will help you enjoy your traveling to the fullest. Even if the traveling is a business trip, take a few hours to enjoy the sights and sounds of a new city.
- Schedule Everything
Your planner is your best friend when it comes to doing business while traveling. If you have to schedule a business call or video conference, put it in your planner. All of your daily check in times should be planned. Your work hours and free hours need to be clearly labeled. Planning ahead will reduce stress and no one wants to be stressed while they are traveling.
- Say No
Sometimes, a business trip or working while traveling can be overwhelming. If you are on a business trip and too much is scheduled, you need to express the time limitations you face. If this is your leisure vacation, say no to conferences and business calls. It is ok to take the time for yourself.
