What does Meerkat do?

 

Meerkat, is a  live streaming video app which alerts users through twitter. Meerkat is the best to let the world experience what you see, along with you. With this live streaming app you can instantly push live video to your friends iOS devices and follow their lives in real time.

 

It is currently available for beta fro iPhone and iPod touch only. After you install Meerkat app in your iOS device you can sign up using your facebook account or using your email address. When you are logged in, you can find the people you want to watch, broadcast your own videos and do a lot more.

 

How much Meerkat was funded?

The live streaming video app has raised $ 12 M in Series A funding on March 21st, 2015 from the investor John Elman along with the participation of other unknown angels.

What is next for Meerkat?

Initially Meerkat depended on Twitter for the info and social graph, but the popular social networking site has recently cut of  Meerkat and limited its access and it acquired Periscope, Meerkat’s rival which is to be released into the market still.

 

Ben Rubin, Meerkat’s CEO said that the imposed limitations of Twitter  on the app will force it to bring up new features to compensate for the loss of Twitter’s support. Meerkat has recently introduced many new features to start building its personalized social platform which is not dependant on Twitter.
