Calhoun Vision, is a privately held company which is dedicated to enhancing people’s quality of vision through advanced technology in optics and material science. The company is focused on developing vision correction technologies for post cataract surgery patients. It was started in 1999 by Dr.Daniel Schwartz at UCSF and Dr. Robert Grubbs at Cal Tech. Together they have developed the idea of light adjustable lens, the power of which can be change after implanting it in the eye by the safe, non-invasive light application. The company’s first target was the field of cataract surgery, for eliminating refractive errors following intraocular lens implantation.

After years of extensive lab work and clinical studies of hundreds of patients, the company’s Light Adjustable Lens was introduced commercially into countries of the European Union. Calhoun Vision has completed Phase I and II of the necessary clinical investigation, the III and IV phase has commenced, and all the subjects have been enrolled in the study.
