What does Cask Data do?

 Cask Data, is an open source software company which helps developers deliver enterprise class Apache Hadoop solutions. The company was founded by developers for developers. It is an open source software platform which brings virtualization to Hadoop data and apps. It is backed by lead investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Battery Ventures and Ignition Partners. The company is focused on developers and its flagship offering, the Cask Data Application Platform, makes it possible to easily and quickly develop and deploy more powerful apps for Hadoop, the industry standard open source framework for large scale data apps. The CDAP- Cask Data Application Platform, provides open source layer on top of the Hadoop ecosystem which adds enterprise class portability, governances, stability, security and consistency in transactions. This CDAP platform from the Data Apps to Data Lakes, is ideal for enterprise environments as its abstracts plenty of layers of the Hadoop ecosystem, allowing developers in using their current skills for building high performance, large scale Big Data apps. This will largely accelerate the application development and their deployment into production, reducing their average time of implementation by more than 80%, while keeping the operational controls required by the enterprise customers in the today’s world.

The company raised $20M in Series B on November 5, 2015 from Ignition Partners, Safeguard Scientifics and Battery Ventures.
