What does Hivemapper do?

Hivemapper, is a developer of 3D maps to help drone pilots avoid crashing into building. This is a start up which aims to help drone pilots avoid crashing. It provides mapping and navigation tool for drone fliers for planning betters, exploring further and flying safer. The start up is mapping the entire earth for drone flier and making the info easily accessible for all to use and contribute to across the web, drones and mobile. Nothing is better than real people working together sharing the best launch points, what they will see when they fly in an area, the issues to watch out for when flying. With more than 200 launch points and 6,000 community contributed waypoint pictures in the San Francisco Bay Area one can never run out the interesting and unique places of flying.

Hivemapper raised $2.9M in Seed funding on  November 5th, 2015 by Homebrew, Google Ventures, Harrison Metal and Spark Capital.

What is next for Hivemapper?

 The company is launching a public beta of its mapping app on Google Play. This app integrates with DJI drones to give pilots access to data rich, localized maps so that they can control their drones better. The company is going live as Amazon, Google and Walmart and others are speeding up their research into whether delivery by drone is feasible. The company is developing a live mapping tool which drone pilots the location of close by planes and other potential hazards, this can keep the air traffic under control.

The company has mapped more than 20 M building boundaries, more than 10M building heights, and 15 M points of interest all plotted on a 3D map. The app has also mapped tens of thousands of no fly zones across the country.
